Our Genes are Being Perpetuated

So the big day that we have been waiting for for the last nine months finally arrived.  Our first baby, Grayson Thomas Reynolds, has finally arrived!  On Saturday, the day before Grayson was born, we went to a huge art festival here in Lexington and before we went we snapped one last weekly pregnancy picture of Jenna.

This is Jenna at 39 weeks and one day before Gray was born.

As we walked around the festival Jenna had a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions.  Every half hour we would have to stop and look real interested in some booth but it was really just because she was in too much pain to walk until the contraction had passed.   That night/ next morning at 3:30 in the morning she began going into labor.  Contractions started at 8 min apart and slowly creeped closer and closer.  She was such an awesome trooper.  She didn't even wake me up intentionally.  I just woke up because I noticed she was up and then realized that she was having contractions.  I didn't realize that I wouldn't be going to bed again until about 3 am the next day.  We waited until it was 7:45am and then left for the hospital (only after Jenna was able to take a shower and blow dry her hair, she looked great for the hospital visit).  I have to admit, I took a shower too.  I then sped to the hospital so that she wouldn't have to suffer through too many contractions in the car.  I almost ran a red light (there were no cars around and we were just sitting there waiting) but Jenna kept saying she didn't want us to get in an accident on the way to the hospital.  We got there and she was already 7cm dilated.  Awesome.

This is a picture of Jenna in mid contraction

A little while later she got a sweet epidural.  You can really tell the difference.

From there it was a waiting game til it was time to push and then out came this squish-faced, cone headed beauty.

Jenna still couldn't feel any of the pain from the episiotomy and was thrilled to be holding her new baby boy just minutes after giving birth to him.

I got my shot at him too.   I'm quite the dad.

This is a little video of him just after we got to our room where we would be staying for the next couple days.

Later he got his first bath and while he hated the scrubbing part, he loved having his full head of hair shampooed and rinsed in warm water.  He also liked when his back was scrubbed.  Head scratches and back scratches, sounds like his daddy's boy.

Our first family picture.

We had some wonderful visitors.  Jackson has been excited for quite sometime to meet his newest buddy "Baby Gwayun"

Jenna got a whole repertoire of cute hats for him to wear (little did we know, he might not be needing them with all of the hair he's got).  How cute is the button on the head of our little Button.

September apples came a little early this year.

Finally it was time to prepare to go home.  This is his first going home outfit.  Hopefully the hat doesn't get him sick, since he sent a wonderful 2 foot high rainbow of pee up over his head the night before while I was changing him and it splashed on his hat a little (not to mention on his crib thing, and his own face).  We did wash the hat.

Doesn't she look awesome.  You couldn't even tell she just had a baby.

His first car trip.  Thank you Lexington Fire Department for showing us how on earth to get the base to the car seat installed correctly.  Who knew they have car seat technicians on staff? (besides Jennilyn, who told us to go there.  Thanks!)

This is our last cute video for this post.  Enjoy the gift that we love so much.

We love being parents so much.  Jenna has been absolutely incredible.  Her mom came to help us and she planned on getting here a week early.  That meant that she flew in on Saturday evening.  Turns out she came right on time.  She has been so incredibly helpful.  We love her and are so happy we have her taking care of us while we take care of Gray.

It is an amazing thing to see this cute little helpless boy and realize that he just came from Heavenly Father and was just there preparing to come and meet us.  I can't help but wonder what type of spirit he was in the spirit world and how that spirit will show more and more as he begins to mature in this life.  Heavenly Father has put a lot of trust in us to let us raise one of his special spirit children.  We are thrilled to do the best we can.
